Reconstruction of a Polovtsian, cuman caftan from the town of Iziaslav. The areas of today's Ukraine.
The caftan, which was initially mistaken for a dress, was re-examined by O. Orfinskaya, who in her scientific work determined the exact cut, materials from which it was made and the seams used.
The caftan is made of cotton, trimmed with red-dyed (probably because the dye was not preserved in sufficient condition to determine it with 100% certainty) cotton strips. The bottom and sleeves have a fragmentary linen lining and the connection at the waist is covered with a narrow strip of silk.
We make costumes in accordance with the current state of scientific knowledge and on the basis of archaeological, ethnographic and iconographic evidence - so you will be admitted to even the most demanding event. For each piece of clothing, we send an "outfit passport" electronically to confirm the basis on which the item was sewn.
