A gambeson, also known as a quilted armor, aketon or padded tunic, is a combat garment worn under armor (chain mail, plates). It was usually made of sewn layers of linen and natural damping. Its main task was to suppress blunt damage and protect against small cuts.
The gambeson became popular in Europe at the end of the 11th century with the beginning of the Crusades. In this form, it reached the peak of its popularity in the 13th century - which is confirmed by such iconographic sources as, for example, the Maciejowski Bible.
The gambeson we offer has excellent damping properties, while not being too thick - which does not hinder movement and allows the wearer to maintain mobility.
It is made of a layer of 100% linen, several layers of damping and lining.
It is stitched by machine.
