Reconstruction of Viking socks based on a find from Skjoldehamn, (Norway, X c.)
Archeologists found parts of a pair of short socks (leistr) inside some shoes. These weren't whole socks, but rather pieces: a nearly complete leg part the top of the other leg part, and a fragment of the toe. Interestingly, all the pieces were made from twilled woolen fabric (most likely brown and gray) that had been sewn together.
